The Winnipeg Jets dropped the regular season home opener in a 7-2 rout by the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs. It wasn’t until the Leafs were up 5-0 in the 3rd when Winnipeg head coach decided to pull starting goalie Steve Mason and replace him with Connor Hellebyuck.
The Jets failed to score in the first period with early power plays but Toronto goalie, Frederick Andersen proved to be tough in net. The Jets finally scored with goals from Mark Scheifele and Matheiu Perrault late in the third period.
The Jets head out west on a 3-game road trip visiting Calgary, Edmonton and Vancovuer. The next home game at Bell MTS Place is on Saturday, October 14 against the Carolina Hurricanes.
