DOT raises target for domestic tourists

Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr. said his office has raised its target to 56.1 million domestic tourists by 2016 after already surpassing their original 2016 target of 35.5 million domestic travelers.
The DOT observed a significant increase in recreation and travel activities notably among young professionals and middle-income families, which can be attributed to the country’s improved economy. Among the top destinations for domestic tourists are Boracay, Cebu, Bohol, Davao, and Puerto Princesa.
Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) chief operating officer Domingo Enerio III added that the increase in local travel is also due to low-cost means of transport and affordable tour packages, including travel incentives offered by some companies to their employees
Recently, the DOT and TPB lauded the Watsons Personal Care Philippines for its Sun Up to Sun Down. The campaign, which will run until April 213, will spread the message “Summer, More Fun in the Philippines” to more than 200,000 daily shoppers in 200 Watson branches nationwide
The top emerging destinations for the summer season are Bataan, Baler, Tuguegarao, Leyte, Mindoro, and Siargao.
