On Saturday, December 30th the Knights of Rizal celebrated the martyrdom of our Philippine national hero Dr. Jose Rizal.
The Knights of Rizal also celebrated the 2017 Youth Recognition Awards with providing bursaries and award certificates to Twenty (20) distinguished graduating students. It is impressive to note that all of the award recipients graduated with a 92% grade point average or better. The recipients were from different high schools in Winnipeg.
It was remarkable to see how academically strong the Filipino youth are within our community. The future looks bright for Winnipeg, as these students pursue their post-secondary education in a variety of fields, such as film, medicine, teaching, finance, business and management.
Also, on this special occasion, it was with great pleasure to induct two of my Council colleagues, Councillor Brian Mayes into the Order of the Knights of Rizal – Winnipeg Chapter and Councillor Devi Sharma into the Ladies of the Knights of Rizal, for their ongoing support and commitment to the Knights of Rizal in Winnipeg. It is wonderful to have these two devoted to disseminating the ideals of Dr. Jose Rizal through various projects that are currently being championed by the Knights of Rizal and the Ladies of the Knights of Rizal.
The Order of the Knights of Rizal is headquartered in Manila, and has over 10,000 international members with Chapters around the world including: Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic and the US. The Order upholds the ideals of Philippine national hero Dr. Jose Rizal.
